Cherry Pie Bars Recipe

June 24, 2013   |   5 Comments

Who here loves cherry pie?  Is there anyone who doesn’t love this dessert?  I can’t imagine!

It is one of my favorite pies to make and devour!  Today I made a delicious summer dessert to share with you.  This is a Cherry dessert that I call Cherry Pie Bars and I think that it is a perfect dessert for a summer BBQ or potluck.

The cherry pie bars are made with a cherry pie filing and have almond flavoring in the crust and glaze on top.  I love the cherry and almond flavor combination, I could eat the entire pan alone.  They are really yummy for breakfast too!  Maybe not healthy, but yummy!

This recipe makes a huge pan of cherry dessert bars so you will have plenty for a large gathering or to share with neighbor friends if you don’t eat them all yourself first.

You can find the recipe for the Cherry Pie Bars below!

How to make Cherry Pie Bars

4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp almond extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 (21 ounce) cherry pie filling 2 if you like cherries a lot

Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 Tbs milk

Instructions

1. Cream together butter and sugar.  Add eggs and beat well.  Beat in extracts.
2. In a separate bowl combine flour and salt.  Add to the creamed mixture.  Mix until combined.
3. Grease a 15x10x1 pan and Spread 3 cups batter in.  Spread with pie filling.  Drop remaining batter on top of pie filling.
4. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes clean.  Cool on wire rack.  Combine glaze ingredients and drizzle over the bars.

glaze, top,& filling were fine BUT my bottom crust was soggy. Is it suppose to be like cake or did I make that layer too thick? I think next time I will bake the bottom for 10 minutes then put filling on and top crust before I put it in for 35 minutes.
