Duck Breast with Vodka Sauce

Have you ever tried Duck breast?  I'm going to be completely honest with you, this is my first recipe ever using it AND it's the first time I've ever tried it myself.  I wasn't completely sure HOW to cook Duck breast but decided to use it just like I would a chicken breast and paired it with a pasta and Vodka sauce.  It turned out pretty good, my hubby really enjoyed it!

How to make Duck Breast with Vodka Sauce

Ingredients You Need

  • 2 Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breast
  • ½ Stick Butter
  • 1 Teaspoon Minced Garlic
  • ½ Cup Onion, Diced
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • ½ Cup Vodka
  • 1 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Cup Water
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • 2 Cups Penne Pasta
  • ½ Cup Parmesan Cheese
  • Fresh Basil

Instructions

Step 1 - Cut your Duck Breast into slices and fry it with a table spoon of butter

Step 2 - Cook the pasta according to the package instructions

Step 3 - While the pasta and duck is cooking, melt the rest of the butter in a large skillet over medium heat

Step 4 - Add the onion and cook until softened then add the garlic

Step 5 - Stir in the tomato to the onion mixture and bring to a simmer

Step 6 0 Reduce head slightly and add the vodka, cook until most of the alcohol has evaporated

Step 7 - Stir in the cream, salt and pepper, bring to a simmer

Step 8 - Cook the sauce until it thickens

Step 9 - Add the pasta to the sauce and mix together

Step 10 - Add the cheese and basil

Step 11 - Place the pasta first with duck on top with a little more cheese and basil.  Enjoy!

If you are going to eat this immediately, you could try making it as a one pan skillet meal but remember that the duck does get pretty greasy so you don't want it to sit for very long.

The Vodka sauce is delicious and goes well on pasta alone if you want to try making it without a meat.  You can't go wrong with that recipe!

Also, if you do not have duck breast on hand you can try using chicken in place of it but we are loving the Maple Leaf Farm Duck products so I would really recommend trying to find it for the recipe!
