When someone asks you for this bread recipe, you can show them how you did it. You’ll be super proud of yourself too. I think it’s super important that everyone knows how to make their own bread from scratch.
Why Is My Homemade Bread So Heavy?
This is a simple answer. Your homemade bread is heavy because you did not knead the dough enough. Make sure you take the time to knead it and prepare it for baking. You’ll appreciate having light and fluffy bread.
How Do You Make Bread Taste Better?
You can easily make the bread taste better by using a variety of flavors. You can spread different jams or kinds of butter on your bread. I like to make cinnamon sugar butter and spread it on my homemade bread. It’s super delicious and you should try it.
Easy Homemade Bread from Scratch
Ingredients
- 1 2/3 cups lukewarm water, divided
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 package)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 Tbsp butter room temperature
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 Tbsp butter, melted for brushing
Using a bowl of a stand mixer combine half of the lukewarm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 15 minutes until foamy.
Add remaining water, honey, salt, butter and 4 cups of the flour to the bowl. Using the dough hook, knead on low speed until the dough comes together and is soft but not too sticky. Add flour if necessary. Continue to knead for 5-10 minutes until the dough pulls away from the sides and is soft and smooth.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic or a kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
Lightly flour a surface to work the dough on. Divide it into two equally sized portions. Use your hands to gently pat each half into a rectangle. Roll up the rectangle into a right roll and pinch the seams to seal. Tuck the ends of the roll slightly under the roll and place in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake loaves for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Remove the loaves from the loaf pan and brush melted butter on the top of the loaves. Enjoy!
Items You’ll Need to Help You Make This Bread
Sometimes you just need the right tools to help you make homemade bread. Here are the items I used to help in the making of this bread.
- Yeast – I have found that active dry yeast works best.
- Rolling pin – You’ll want to have a good rolling pin on hand.
- Stand mixer – While you don’t need to HAVE a stand mixer to make bread, it sure does help!
- Bread loaf pans – These are my favorite for making bread in my own home! You can also use disposable bread pans. I buy them in bulk!
