Have you ever made your own tomato spaghetti sauce? We have an easy slow cooker recipe for you to try and can your own sauce for the year!
About a week ago, my Mom came up from Iowa to visit for the weekend. I had asked her to bring me some fresh tomatoes when she came up and boy did she deliver!
We’re talking baskets full of fresh tomatoes!! There was no possible way that I would be able to eat them all, my hubby and boys are not tomato eaters like me.
We decided to make a really easy recipe, slow cooker spaghetti sauce, with a bunch of the tomatoes. If you have never made your own spaghetti sauce, you have to give it a try! The sauce is delicious and it really makes your house smell yummy and feel warm when you making it.
How to Make Slow Cooker Tomato Spaghetti Sauce
Ingredients
- 8-10 Cups Fresh Tomatoes Peeled and Diced (if you don’t have fresh tomatoes you can use cans of diced tomatoes instead)
- 2 Green Peppers Diced
- 2 White Onions Diced
- 1 Banana Pepper Diced (use Jalapeño if you like spicy)
- 4 Tablespoons of Italian Seasoning
- 2 Tablespoons of Salt (more or less depending on your taste)
- 3 Garlic Cloves minced
- 1 Tablespoon Fresh Cilantro (I don’t always use this, but had it on hand)
Instructions
Step 1 – Mix all ingredients together in the slow cooker.
Step 2 – Set on Low for 10 hours and let cook.
Step 3- Stir every hour or so.
Step 4 – After your sauce if finished proceed to canning the spaghetti sauce in a hot water bath and Ball Canning Jars. You will want to process for 40 minutes. If you do not want to can your sauce, place it in the refrigerator.
When you’re ready to use the sauce, simply cook your meat and mix in the spaghetti sauce just like you would with a store bought sauce. Add the sauce to your noodles and enjoy!
We use this on our pizza too, it’s really yummy!

Could you make the above spaghetti sauce, put in canning jars (leaving 1/2″ headspace at top) & just freeze jars?
Now this is just awesome- I have been wanting to do this for FOREVER. I know someone that will hook me up with some serious bounty next season- can’t wait to try this then
