Chocolate Mousse is one of my boys favorite treats, the creamy chocolate dessert always brings a smile to their face. Plus, it’s pretty darn easy to make too. I think it’s pretty much a chocolate ganache mixed with whipping cream and how can you go wrong with that?
My kids like to enjoy the chocolate mousse straight out of a cup but I think it’s a fabulous cake filling. So, there are several different ways you can use this chocolaty goodness.
This recipe does not use raw eggs like many call for, so if that has turned you off from making chocolate mousse in the past, give this one a try!
How to Make Homemade Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Milk Chocolate Chips
- 6 Tablespoons Water
- 2 Tablespoons Vanilla
- 2 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
Instructions
Step 1 – Melt the milk chocolate and water in a saucepan (I use a double boiler)
Step 2 – Whisk in the Vanilla and let it cool to room temperature
Step 3 – Whip the cream until it makes soft peaks and then add the powdered sugar
Step 4 – After the chocolate has cooled fold it into the whip cream mixture until it is well combined.
Step 5 – Garnish with more whip cream and chocolate drizzle. Enjoy!
Be sure to wait until the chocolate has cooled completely before you add it to the whipped cream, otherwise, you will have a runny mess! Be patient, it takes a little time to cool down!
Serve your chocolate mousse in a fancy glass serving dish to make it really stand out! My boys topped theirs with more chocolate chips too, you can never go wrong with more chocolate!
This recipe made enough for 6 dishes of chocolate mousse and would also be enough for a cake filling if you decide to use it for that instead! Watch for my upcoming chocolate strawberry cake with mousse filling!
