Homemade Salsa using Fresh Ingredients

October 1, 2013   |   Leave a Comment

I love Salsa, and I love homemade fresh salsa the most.  I had a couple friends deliver some delicious home grown tomatoes over the last couple weeks and I decided to make an easy recipe for homemade salsa for my hubby and I to snack on one evening.  It turned out amazing.

Tomatoes are starting to come to the end of their season right now and I know there are many people trying to find ways to use them up.  This is a delicious, quick and simple recipe to try!

I don’t like my salsa too spicy so making my own lefts me control the amount of heat that goes in.  I only put one small jalapeno pepper in the salsa and used more of the banana peppers that were less spicy.

We used fresh tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic and a few other ingredients to make this yummy snack ate it with some bite sized Tostito’s.

How to make Homemade Salsa

Ingredients

  • 4 Fresh Tomatoes Chopped
  • 1 – medium onion chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeno, minced (remove the seeds if you want it milder)
  • 2 Banana Peppers, minced
  • 1 handful of fresh cilantro (I didn’t use this time)
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Step 1 – Chop up your tomatoes and place in a strainer over a bowl, salt your tomatoes and let them sit for a few minutes.  (Be sure to safe the juice that drains out and use in soups or drinks)

Step 2 – Place your tomatoes in a medium sized bowl once they have drained.

Step 3 – Mince your onion, garlic, and peppers and add to the tomatoes.

Step 4 – Add the lime juice and more salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5 – Let the salsa mixture sit in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before eating so the flavors can all mess together.

Enjoy eating with your Tostito chips, on tacos or burritos.  Or if you love tomatoes like me, just eat it with a spoon.  YUM!
