Homemade Chocolate Cake with Coconut Oil
Who loves a delicious homemade chocolate cake recipe that's loaded with a sweet and buttery frosting that's to die for? My family loved this recipe and I think you will too! It's a little different than your normal homemade chocolate cake because it doesn't use dairy or eggs in the recipe.
This is a Coconut Oil Chocolate Cake and to be honest you can't taste coconut at all in it. Last week after I made my Coconut Oil Chocolate Chip Cookies, I had to continue trying out different recipes with the coconut oil. I am LOVING it! Check out how easy this homemade chocolate cake is to make!

How to Make Coconut Oil Homemade Chocolate Cake
Ingredients You Need
- 3 Cups All Purpose FLour
- 2 Cups Sugar
- 6 Tablespoons Rodelle Baking Cocoa
- 2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
- ½ Teaspoon Salt
- ¾ Cup Coconut Oil
- 2 Tablespoons Vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon Rodelle Vanilla
- 2 Cups Cold Water
Instructions
Step 1 - Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees
Step 2 - In a large bowl mix the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt together and set to the side
Step 3 - In a stand mixer, mix the coconut oil, vinegar, vanilla and water until smooth
Step 4 - Add the flour mixture slowly to the wet ingredients
Step 5 - Pour the mixture into two 9 inch pans that have been coated with spray
Step 6 - Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool before frosting.

How to Make the Chocolate Frosting
Ingredients You Need
- 1 Cup Softened Butter
- ¼ Cup Rodelle Baking Cocoa
- 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon Rodelle Vanilla
Instructions
Mix all ingredients together until the frosting is light and fluffy. Spread over your cake!

For the Whip Cream layer on top I made homemade whip cream using heavy cream, vanilla and powdered sugar. If you need this recipe leave me a comment and I'll be sure to share it soon!
This cake is one of our new favorite chocolate cake recipes. It's so delicious with the frosting and whip cream on top. But if you would like to keep it a vegan cake, you could just sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top instead!

Simple. and. Delicious. Ideal for Birthday cakes and any dessert you need whipped up in a jiffy! I added a teaspoon of coffee to enrich the cake.:)
Made this for my lactose-intolerant boyfriend’s birthday. I used vegan butter in the frosting. It was so dang good!
Is the coconut oil in this recipe melted or solid?
