Homemade Marshmallow Recipe

November 15, 2020   |   Leave a Comment

Imagine biting into a soft Homemade Marshmallow that you can enjoy for many different recipes. Whether you’re eating them plain or using the marshmallows to create S’mores, you can’t go wrong.

I am going to teach you how to make something today that you won’t be able to get enough of. Kids love these as a snack because they are so soft and just make so much sense to enjoy! You can use these marshmallows in any recipe that calls for them in a recipe. How awesome is that? Let’s get started on making this recipe, so you can enjoy them ASAP!

I have actually made these marshmallows several times. The first time, I was nervous because I have always bought mine from the store. However, once I figured out how easy they were to make on my own, I decided to start making them. And you may be surprised as to how little time and effort these take to make.

Homemade Marshmallow Recipe

The good news is that the ingredients to make your own marshmallows are very simple. Just make sure you follow the directions to the recipe so that your marshmallows come out super soft and fluffy. I can never get enough of these whenever we make them. Homemade is so much better than store-bought in so many ways.

Ingredients:

  • Gelatin – Who would have known that something so simple was used in the creation of marshmallows? It’s true!
  • Coldwater – You are going to need cold water to help you make these homemade marshmallows.

For the syrup:

  • Water  – You will need water again for the syrup, but not much.
  • Sugar – Yes, you will need just a little bit of sugar to help you make this recipe.

For dusting:

  • Powdered sugar  – If I can’t use powdered sugar on my marshmallows, then I don’t want it.

How to Make This Homemade Marshmallow Recipe

Line 9 x 9-inch or 8 x 8-inch pan with aluminum foil and lightly oil it using your fingers or non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, sprinkle gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water. Soak for about 10  minutes.

Meanwhile, combine sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan, whisking only until the sugar is dissolved. Bring the mixture to boil and keep boiling it until it reaches 240 F. (116C)

Carefully pour the boiling syrup into soaked gelatin and turn on the mixer, using the whisk attachment, starting on low and moving up to high speed. Beat for between 5-7 minutes, or until fluffy and warm.

Grease a silicone scraper with neutral oil and transfer marshmallow into the prepared pan.  Use your spatula to press the marshmallow into the pan evenly. Dust the powder sugar and corn starch mixture on top. Let the mixture sit for a few hours, or overnight, until cooled and firmly set.

Sprinkle a cutting surface very generously with a dusting mix. Remove marshmallow from pan and lay on top of the sugar. Dust the top generously with this mixture as well.
